A piece of American natural history, carried forward in silver and stone.

At the center of this one-of-one bolo is a vintage Longines Symphonette “America’s Natural Legacy” Bighorn Sheep medallion, struck in .925 sterling silver by the Wittnauer Mint. Created as part of a series celebrating America’s wildlife and natural heritage, the medallion depicts bighorn sheep within their rugged mountain landscape.

Decades later, the medallion was discovered in an antique store in Ogden, Utah, and brought back to the Bootleg Silver Co. studio to begin another chapter.

Beneath the medallion sits a hand-selected piece of high-grade Royston turquoise. Its remarkable natural matrix was intentionally positioned as an extension of the landscape above it—the greens, earth tones and rugged pattern echoing the mountainous terrain inhabited by the bighorn.

The medallion and turquoise are set into a substantial, hand-forged sterling silver bolo with dimensional silver accents and an oxidized finish that emphasizes the original relief and character of the vintage piece.

The bolo is finished with a 22-inch brown braided leather cord and sterling silver tips.

For maker Suzette Meyers, the bighorn carries a deeply personal connection. Growing up in the mountains of rural Idaho, bighorn sheep were part of the landscape. Her father was a professional hunting guide and has kept his own trophy bighorn for more than 45 years. He also helped his father, Merle, with his bighorn hunt—connecting this piece across generations of family, hunters, ranchers and the mountains they called home.

This is the purpose of the Heritage Series: taking materials with histories of their own and carrying their stories forward through the maker’s hand.
