Studio Policies & Custom Work
Bootleg Silver Co. is an artisan metalsmithing studio creating hand-fabricated jewelry in sterling silver, gold, turquoise, jadeite, and natural stone. Each piece is individually fabricated, finished, and curated in small batches or as one-of-one works.
Because of the handcrafted nature of the work, variations in stone, texture, finish, patina, and silver detailing are part of the character and authenticity of each piece.
Custom Work
Bootleg Silver Co. accepts a limited number of custom commissions throughout the year.
Custom work may include:
- Artisan-cabbed jadeite or turquoise
- Heirloom redesigns
- Custom cuffs, pendants, rings, bolos, and earrings
- Mixed-metal work
- Boutique-exclusive designs
- Collector commissions
The studio specializes in creating pieces that preserve the natural beauty of the stone while honoring American Southwest craftsmanship and heirloom design traditions.
Start a Custom Commission
To begin a custom piece, contact the studio with a brief description of what you have in mind, including the type of piece, preferred stone or materials, approximate budget, and any design direction you would like considered.
Contact Bootleg Silver Co. through the website Contact page to begin your custom inquiry.
A $250 Design & Consultation fee is required to begin a custom commission. This fee is non-refundable and is applied as a credit toward the total commission balance.
Once the design, materials, and estimated project cost are approved, a total non-refundable deposit equal to 75% of the commission price is required before fabrication begins. The initial $250 Design & Consultation fee is included in that 75% deposit and credited toward the amount due.
Final pricing is determined by material and stone selection, precious-metal costs, fabrication complexity, and labor. Because precious-metal markets fluctuate daily, final material costs may adjust with current market pricing.
The customer approves the initial design before soldering and fabrication begin. Lead time is provided during the Design & Consultation process based on project scope and the current studio schedule.
The remaining balance is due in full immediately upon completion of the commission.
Jadeite & Natural Stone
Many stones used within Bootleg Silver Co. collections are individually hand-cut, carved, and polished within the studio by Suzette Meyers.
Natural variations, inclusions, matrix, color zoning, translucency, and surface character are inherent to genuine jadeite, turquoise, coral, and other natural stones and are not considered flaws.
Bootleg Silver Co. prioritizes natural materials whenever possible, including Type A jadeite and artisan-sourced turquoise.
Returns & Exchanges
Due to the handcrafted and often one-of-one nature of the work:
- Custom orders are final sale
- Retail orders are final sale
- Design & Consultation fees and deposits are non-refundable
Please contact the studio within 3 days of delivery regarding any concerns with your order.
Jewelry Care
Sterling silver naturally oxidizes over time and may develop additional patina with wear. To preserve the finish of your jewelry:
- Avoid prolonged exposure to water, chemicals, perfumes, and lotions
- Store pieces in a dry environment
- Use a soft polishing cloth when needed
- Protect natural stones from impact
