The jade originated as the center cut from bangle material selected by a master jade carver. Preserved from the bangle-making process, the substantial center section presents the natural character, subtle tonal variation and presence of the original material on an unusually large scale.

The jade is framed in hand-fabricated sterling silver with dimensional floral elements, sculptural scrollwork and individually formed embellishments. A deeply oxidized finish creates contrast throughout the composition, emphasizing the depth and character of the metalwork while allowing the jade to remain the focal point.

The pendant is paired with an 18-inch heavy-gauge sterling silver chain, selected to complement the scale and substantial construction of the piece.

ABOUT TYPE A JADEITE

Type A is the traditional designation for natural jadeite that has not undergone polymer impregnation or chemical bleaching treatments. Its color and internal characteristics remain those of the natural stone, apart from traditional surface finishing such as polishing.

The exceptional scale of this particular jadeite reflects its original purpose as bangle material. The center was preserved rather than discarded during the bangle-making process and ultimately became the foundation for this singular piece of wearable art.
